8mm Film Reels Shown
Have a shoebox-full of old family movies and no way to
watch them? Or maybe you'd just like to simplify the
viewing process, perhaps even get the films into a
format to edit with your home computer. BigTime
can help! We'll transfer your
8mm, Super8, or 16mm
movies - with or without soundtrack - to digital
videotape. With your new digital master, you'll be able
to order copies on disk (DVD or video CD)or even the old
standby VHS, from us or from video shops anywhere in the
world. |

| Digital Mastering |
| Digital videotape
provides a master that is of significantly superior
quality to the VHS film-to-video masters typically
offered by photo shops and mail-in services. That's
because digital videotape has about three times as many
video scan lines than VHS. But best of all, digital
technology allows a perfect "first generation" copy each
and every time a dub is made from your new master. If
you've ever made a VHS copy of another VHS copy, you
know how quickly good VHS can go bad. (Please remember
that a DVD is a copy of a master videotape. While
well-suited as a playback device for consumer video, DVD
should never be used as an archival master.) For the
budding documentarian, a digital master videotape will
be the first step on the way to hands-on editing a
keepsake "Family Album" movie - minus the ground shots,
over and underexposures, dizzying pan and tilt shots and
damaged segments that always come with old films. Simply
put, if your old movies fall under the "family heirloom"
category, they deserve nothing less than transfer to
digital videotape. And the good news is that digital
technology adds very little to the cost of a job. Blank
digital videotape (for the master) is a just few dollars
more than the old-fashioned VHS stuff. In fact, digital
tape is so clearly superior to VHS that BigTime is no
longer accepting orders for film to VHS transfers! |

| Things to Remember |
| Here are a few tips to
help you get your project in order before bringing it
in. First, take stock of what you have. We'll need about
two weeks to complete your order, unless it's the
holiday season when it will take longer. Orders needed
for Christmas should be in our hands no later than
Thanksgiving. Number all the reels in the order that you
would like them to appear. Don't worry about cleaning or
trimming the film - we do that as part of the job. We
also color correct the film as much as possible and then
- if you like - we splice all the film together on one
large reel. No more shoebox! |

| Price Schedule |
All films are sent to a
high quality lab in Los Angeles for cleaning and
transfer to a digital "master" for our duplication
process. The schedule is approximate only.
Add an additional $6.50 for each hour of film time for
the MiniDV "master", plus the standard rates for VHS or
other format duplication. |
